Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Tester to join our QA team. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in testing mainframe applications, particularly those built on COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM. The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and experience working in Agile or Waterfall development environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze business requirements and create detailed test plans and test cases for mainframe applications.
- Perform system, integration, regression, and UAT testing on mainframe-based systems.
- Write and execute test scripts using tools like CA7, Control-M, or custom batch utilities.
- Validate data in mainframe databases (DB2, VSAM) using SQL queries and file comparison tools.
- Collaborate with developers, BAs, and other testers to ensure quality and timely delivery.
- Track defects using tools like JIRA, ALM, or Bugzilla and work with the development team for resolution.
- Perform batch job testing and analyze job failures and logs.
- Generate daily/weekly test execution reports and provide status updates to stakeholders.
- Participate in test planning, risk assessments, and release reviews.
Required Skills:
- 4–10 years of experience in Mainframe testing.
- Strong knowledge of COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, TSO/ISPF.
- Experience with test management tools (e.g., HP ALM, JIRA, Zephyr).
- Proficiency in writing and executing SQL queries.
- Knowledge of file handling (Flat files, Sequential files, GDGs).
- Experience with batch job execution and monitoring tools (e.g., CA7, Control-M).
- Good understanding of SDLC and STLC, especially in Agile or Waterfall models.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Domain experience in Banking/Insurance/Healthcare.
- Familiarity with automation tools for mainframe testing (e.g., REXX, Selenium for green screens).
- ISTQB or equivalent certification.
