Data Warehouse Migration Developer (DBT/Databricks/Azure)

Location: Remote OR Ready to work in PST

Contract

Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled developer to support the migration of client’s data warehouse processes—originally developed in DBT for Snowflake—to Alaska’s Delta Lake House (DLH) architecture, hosted on Azure and powered by Databricks. This is an individual contributor role focused on converting DBT code, building Databricks notebooks, and integrating data pipelines into the enterprise data warehouse.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Migrate DBT workflows and data models from Snowflake to Delta Lake House (DLH).
  • Create and manage DLH target tables, schemas, and objects using SQL DML operations.
  • Refactor and optimize DBT code to align with DLH architecture and Azure cloud standards.
  • Develop Databricks notebooks embedded with DBT processes for data transformation.
  • Collaborate with the Data Services team to integrate internal and external data sources.
  • Participate in Kanban-based development cycles and deploy code via GitHub.
  • Ensure robust unit and regression testing of all deliverables.
  • Provide support for production issues and participate in 24x7 on-call rotations as needed.
  • Act as a technical thought leader and collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and Security teams.

Mandatory Skills:

  • DBT: Minimum 3 years of experience (including integration with Databricks).
  • Databricks (Python): Minimum 3 years of experience.
  • SQL (Query & DML): Minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Azure Cloud: Experience with Azure DevOps, Azure Functions, App Services.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Experience with automated deployments using GitHub or Azure DevOps.
  • Excellent Communication: Proven ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Testing: Familiarity with unit and regression testing best practices.
  • Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Minimum Age: 18 years or older.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (additional 2 years in lieu of degree).

Preferred Skills:

  • Delta Lake House (Unity Catalog)
  • Snowflake (legacy migration understanding)
  • Enterprise Data Warehouse experience (e.g., STAR schemas)
  • Knowledge of Airline Industry or related terminology
  • Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes
