Job Description
- Advise agency leaders on cloud architecture and security concerns related to Azure, including in-place migrations and refactoring.
- Make recommendations on lift-and-shift, on-premises-to-cloud-native migrations, and modernization pathways.
- Provide guidance and recommendations on refactoring applications and services within Azure.
- Conduct testing and create minimum viable product (MVP) solutions in Azure to validate architectural approaches.
- Evaluate and leverage service offerings from the Commonwealth of Virginia (COV), MSI, and other connected service providers.
- Configure Azure services to support agency requirements, focusing primarily on Azure-based service configurations.
- Prepare high-quality documentation, including architecture diagrams, position papers, security recommendations, and migration strategies.
- Adhere to cloud security best practices, including zero-trust principles, network segmentation, just-in-time access, conditional access, identity governance, and related controls.
- Participate in cloud security posture management activities, including vulnerability remediation and perimeter defense architecture.
- Support DevOps modernization using Azure DevOps and GitHub Enterprise Cloud.
- Sign and comply with a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
- Senior-level experience as an Azure Cloud Architect with the ability to confidently articulate advanced technical knowledge.
- Strong expertise in cloud computing fundamentals (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
- Experience with both single-cloud and multi-cloud strategies and their architectural implications.
- Proven experience designing end-to-end cloud solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
- Deep knowledge of Azure networking and storage architectures.
- Hands-on experience with key Azure services including, but not limited to:
- Azure Key Vault
- Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD)
- Azure Functions
- Azure App Service / Web Apps
- Containers (AKS, ACI)
- Microservices and serverless architectures
- Understanding of availability options, high availability (HA) patterns, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies in Azure from both an RPO and RTO perspective.
- Strong documentation skills, including the ability to produce professional architecture documents.
- Experience supporting cloud security posture activities, encryption (at rest and in transit), and Azure security tooling.
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps and GitHub Enterprise Cloud.
- Experience with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle) and non-relational databases (Cosmos DB).
- 5+ years experience as an on-premise architect supporting enterprise infrastructure/services.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (Required; must upload certification).
