Job Description
Business Analyst – Project Lead (Public Sector Financial Systems | Fully Remote)

We’re partnering with a mission-driven public-sector technology initiative to bring on a senior Business Analyst / Project Lead who thrives at the intersection of complex financial systems, workflow design, and user experience transformation.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys stepping into established enterprise systems, identifying friction points, and leading meaningful improvements that directly impact how critical services are delivered.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • High-impact work: You’ll play a key role in modernizing and redesigning financial workflows within a large-scale, statewide system.
  • True ownership: This is a hands-on, senior-level role where your recommendations shape real outcomes — not just documentation.
  • Remote-first: Work fully remote, with only occasional travel for key stakeholder sessions.
  • Finite, focused engagement: A clearly defined project with meaningful scope and visibility.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a senior member of the project team, you’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with functional leaders and fellow analysts.
Core Responsibilities
  • Analyze existing financial workflows to identify inefficiencies, usability gaps, and process pain points.
  • Design optimized, user-centered workflows aligned with regulatory and business requirements.
  • Lead enhancements for complex financial functions such as receipts, distributions, disbursements, reconciliations, and adjustments.
  • Translate business needs into intuitive, self-guided user experiences, including:
    • Guided workflows and wizards
    • Contextual help, tooltips, and decision support
    • Simplified navigation for complex transactions
  • Partner with stakeholders to deeply understand operational needs and constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional analysts to develop test scenarios, test cases, and support validation efforts.
  • Participate in ongoing functional reviews, enhancement discussions, and issue triage to drive continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For
This role is best suited for a seasoned Business Analyst who has worked on enterprise-scale financial or government systems and can comfortably lead without heavy oversight.
Required Experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst on complex systems
  • 5+ years working with financial operations (e.g., receipts, distributions, disbursements, reconciliations, recoupment)
  • Strong background in workflow design and system enhancement initiatives
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with large-scale public sector or regulated systems
  • Background working with child support, benefits, or similar social services platforms
  • Familiarity with Agile and/or Waterfall delivery models
  • Experience using tools such as TFS, Microsoft Test Manager, or similar
  • Strong SQL skills for data validation and analysis
  • Proven experience conducting stakeholder interviews and translating findings into actionable designs
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, IT, or a related field OR
  • Equivalent hands-on experience working with complex child support or public-sector financial systems
