Job Description
The SAP BTP / RAP Lead will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise in designing, building, and delivering enterprise-grade applications on SAP BTP using the RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP).
This role carries end-to-end accountability for solution design, delivery, and quality, along with people leadership responsibilities, including mentoring and managing a team of developers.
Technical Leadership & Solution Ownership
- Own end-to-end design, development, and delivery of applications built on SAP BTP and SAP RAP, ensuring alignment with business and architectural goals.
- Lead the design and implementation of RAP-based architectures, including managed & unmanaged scenarios, transactional processing, and draft-enabled applications.
- Define and govern solution design covering CDS views, behaviour definitions, service definitions, service bindings, and OData V4 services.
- Drive UI integration using Fiori Elements and SAPUI5, ensuring consistent UX, performance, and extensibility.
- Delivery & Accountability
- Act as the single point of accountability for delivery commitments for the team, including scope, timelines, quality, and technical outcomes.
- Ensure adherence to SAP clean core principles, cloud-ready ABAP development standards, and BTP best practices.
- Proactively identify delivery risks, performance bottlenecks, and integration challenges, and lead resolution to closure.
Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Lead and manage a team of developers, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and continuous coaching.
- Establish development standards, best practices, and reusable frameworks across the team.
- Support team planning, task allocation, estimation, and sprint execution in collaboration with project and delivery managers.
- Mentor junior team members and help build long-term RAP and BTP capability within the organization.
- Integration & Architecture
- Lead integration of BTP applications with S/4HANA, SAP ECC, SAP Cloud Integration (CPI), API Management, Event Mesh, Destination Service, IAS/IPS, and other BTP services.
- Collaborate closely with enterprise architects, functional consultants, security, and DevOps teams to design secure, scalable, and resilient solutions.
- Contribute to architecture discussions, design reviews, and technology roadmap planning.
Quality, DevOps & Documentation
- Drive performance optimization, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis across environments.
- Ensure strong DevOps practices leveraging gCTS / ABAP Git, transport strategy, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Own and review technical design documents, solution blueprints, and operational documentation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong hands-on expertise in SAP RAP (managed and unmanaged scenarios).
- Deep knowledge of CDS Views, annotations, behaviors, metadata extensions, and extensibility concepts.
- Proven experience building OData V4 services and consuming them via Fiori Elements / SAPUI5.
- SAP BTP & Integration
- Experience integrating BTP applications with:
- SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC
- SAP Cloud Integration (CPI)
- API Management, Event Mesh, Destination Service
- Identity and access services (IAS/IPS)
- Solid understanding of cloud-native design principles, multi-tenant applications, and deployment on SAP BTP.
Leadership & Delivery
- Prior experience in a lead role managing a development team.
- Strong ownership mindset with end-to-end accountability for delivery.
- Excellent communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Development & DevOps
- Experience with Git-enabled Change and Transport System (gCTS) or ABAP Git.
- Strong debugging, performance tuning, and production support skills.
- Generic Managerial Skills, If any Lead, manage, and mentor a team of SAP developers working on RAP and BTP-based solutions.
Own day-to-day team management, including:
- Task planning and assignment
- Sprint execution and delivery readiness
- Code quality, peer reviews, and technical governance
