Job Description
We are seeking a Founding Rust Engineer to lead the migration of our high-performance AI gateway from Python to Rust. This is a unique opportunity to work directly with the CTO and own the architecture, design, and implementation of a mission-critical platform that processes over 1 billion AI API requests per month. The ideal candidate has strong Rust expertise, backend systems experience, and a passion for building highly scalable, low-latency infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end migration of a production AI gateway from Python to Rust.
- Collaborate directly with the CTO to define the technical roadmap and migration strategy.
- Design, develop, and optimize scalable backend services using Rust.
- Improve system performance through latency reduction, throughput optimization, and efficient resource utilization.
- Modernize and restructure the existing codebase for maintainability and reliability.
- Perform benchmarking, performance testing, and production monitoring.
- Build and maintain high-performance APIs and distributed backend services.
- Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud-native technologies.
- Ensure a smooth, stability-first rollout with minimal production risk.
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Professional software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Rust in production environments.
- Experience migrating applications from Python to Rust or developing production-grade Rust services.
- Strong knowledge of backend systems, distributed architectures, and API development.
- Experience with performance optimization, benchmarking, latency tuning, and throughput improvements.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL and Redis.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, EECS, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI infrastructure, LLM platforms, or API gateways.
- Knowledge of asynchronous programming and networking in Rust.
- Experience with high-scale distributed systems handling millions of requests.
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
- Experience working in startup or high-growth environments.
