Job Description
Senior Python Software Developer (Python – Financial Forecasting Applications)
Client is seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer to join the Investments & Capital Markets division. This role focuses on enhancing enterprise financial forecasting platforms that support long-term financial planning, regulatory reporting, and strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in production-grade Python software development, financial systems, SQL, Git, and automated testing. Experience working with forecasting engines, financial accounting applications, and enterprise-scale software is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Refactor and modernize existing financial accounting and forecasting applications.
- Design, develop, and enhance core forecasting engine functionality.
- Improve application performance, scalability, maintainability, and reliability.
- Support quarterly and annual production runs for financial reporting.
- Troubleshoot production issues and resolve application defects.
- Develop clean, maintainable, production-quality Python code.
- Build and maintain automated unit and integration tests.
- Collaborate with data, API, infrastructure, and business teams.
- Partner with FP&A teams to implement new forecasting capabilities.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical documentation.
- Assist with platform upgrades, infrastructure modernization, and cloud/container adoption.
- Follow Agile software development best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of hands-on Python software development experience OR
- Advanced degree with 3+ years of production-grade Python development experience.
- Strong experience developing production software (not scripting).
- Experience with:
- Python
- Git Version Control
- SQL and Relational Databases
- Pandas
- Unit Testing (Pytest or similar)
- Experience with shell scripting.
- Knowledge of Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related quantitative field.
- Understanding of GAAP Accounting principles.
- Financial industry experience.
- Knowledge of fixed income concepts:
- Duration
- Convexity
- Spread
- Option-Adjusted Spread (OAS)
- CFA, FRM, or CPA certification (or pursuing).
- Experience with JIRA.
- Experience working with FP&A or financial forecasting systems.
