The Network Engineer serves as a technical expert in LAN/WAN infrastructure, and various network hardware. The Network Engineer installs, configures, and maintains the organization’s LAN, WAN, data communications network. Investigates and analyzes the feasibility of switching and routing requirements and assists in developing security specifications. Identifies methods and solutions as well as planning and implementation in order to achieve the greatest level of performance tuning, recovery procedures for critical enterprise network systems while providing the highest level of service to the customers.

Identifies methods and solutions as well as planning and implementation in order to achieve the greatest level of performance tuning, recovery procedures for critical enterprise network systems while providing the highest level of service to the customers.
Responsibilities
As a Network Engineer, you have the networking skills to efficiently maintain, upgrade and troubleshoot network devices in person and remotely. You will provide technical hardware, software, and connectivity problem resolutions to our branch/office location, remote sites, and data centers.
- Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, NAC).
- Troubleshoots and resolves router, server, telephony, and network LAN/WAN issues.
- Perform system upgrades and patching of network appliances when appropriate.
- Monitor network resources, maintain network availability and reliability utilizing network performance tools (e.g., PRTG, Gigamon, Riverbed)
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
- Assist in the implementation of security tools, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the Rockland Trust’s information security team.
- Work on escalated Helpdesk Tickets.
- Make sure that network diagrams and documentation are well maintained.
- Implement device hardening standards in accordance with CIS or vendor best practice.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and make suggestions for change.
- Assist in maintaining SLAs for vulnerability and patch management.
- Work with outside vendors and consultants to design and plan the business continuity process.
- Maintain thorough documentation and work with other IT staff to ensure a high level of efficiency and uptime.
- Install and support the routing, switching, and security/VPN technologies in the WAN/LAN environments.
- Maintain a 24x7 on-call schedule that may result in periodic after hours or weekend work.
Skills
- Proven hands-on LAN/WAN network administration and troubleshooting experience.
- Solid understanding of routing and switching (Juniper a plus) as well as SDWAN technology.
- Understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
- Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools.
- Experience in VLAN technology, trunking, and spanning tree protocol.
- Experience in Access Control Lists, Fortinet firewalls, VPN, and other security technologies.
- Experience with Microsoft Visio or other tools used for network flow diagrams and reporting.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to document accurately.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
