Job Overview & Description
We are seeking a highly experienced Transmission Line Principal Engineer to lead and manage the design of high-voltage transmission line projects supporting wind, solar, and battery energy storage initiatives, as well as standalone transmission projects.
This role is part of the Engineering & Construction (E&C) group and is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of transmission line design—from early-stage conceptual development through construction and commissioning. The engineer will manage external engineering consultants, coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, and ensure high-quality design delivery aligned with project goals.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Manage transmission line design projects from concept through execution and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with Early Stage Project Managers to define project scope and requirements.
  • Develop scopes of work, solicit bids, evaluate proposals, and award engineering contracts through Integrated Supply Chain (ISC).
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to secure routing, permitting, and engineering data (geotechnical, LiDAR, survey).
  • Oversee engineering consultants responsible for transmission line design (NEER does not self-perform design).
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering documents including:
    • Issued for Bid (IFB)
    • Issued for Procurement (IFP)
    • Issued for Construction (IFC)
    • As-built drawings
  • Support preparation of competitive proposals (RFPs) and cost estimation activities.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (construction, permitting, development, etc.) for project success.
  • Present project updates, risks, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Ensure design quality, compliance, and value engineering across projects.
Required Qualifications & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in high-voltage transmission line design, engineering, and construction.
  • Strong understanding of transmission line design principles and project lifecycle.
  • Ability to interpret engineering deliverables such as:
    • One-line and three-line diagrams
    • Plan & profile drawings
    • General arrangement drawings
  • Willingness to travel across North America.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Engineering or Project Management experience.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus.
Required Skills
  • Strong project management and coordination skills
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Leadership and stakeholder management
  • Decision-making and risk mitigation
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen
  • Ability to manage multiple vendors and consultants
  • Strong focus on quality, compliance, and process improvement
Technical Skills
  • Experience with industry-standard tools such as:
    • PLSCADD
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Primavera or similar project scheduling tools
