Job Description
Seeking a highly skilled Network Router Engineer to support the U.S. Department of FAA’s mission-critical infrastructure. This role is responsible for the design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise and carrier-grade routing solutions, ensuring high availability, resiliency, and security of FAA communications networks. The engineer will work closely with FAA stakeholders, engineering teams, and federal partners to deliver robust and compliant network routing solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, configure, and implement routing architectures across FAA enterprise and field environments.
- Manage and optimize IP routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS) for scalability and resiliency.
- Support MPLS, QoS, and traffic engineering for FAA’s nationwide networks.
- Conduct router provisioning, upgrades, and firmware/OS patching in compliance with FAA and AT&T standards.
- Troubleshoot routing, connectivity, and performance issues in mission-critical environments.
- Integrate routing solutions with firewalls, switches, SD-WAN, and transport/backhaul systems.
- Ensure network security compliance with FAA, DHS, and federal cybersecurity standards.
- Prepare network diagrams, configuration documentation, and design guidelines.
- Collaborate with FAA and AT&T teams to ensure 24/7 operational readiness and disaster recovery.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer with a focus on routing in large-scale enterprise or carrier environments.
- Expert knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, or Nokia routing platforms.
- Hands-on experience with MPLS, BGP, OSPF, QoS, multicast, and IPv6.
- Strong understanding of network security, segmentation, and encryption standards.
- Experience working in federal or mission-critical environments.
- Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Active Cisco CCNP/CCIE or Juniper JNCIP/JNCIE certifications.
- Prior experience on FAA or U.S. government telecom projects.
- Familiarity with FAA network operations and aviation communication standards.
- Active security clearance (or ability to obtain one).
- Knowledge of automation tools (Ansible, Python, Netconf/YANG) for router configuration.
