Job Description
The Senior Db2 for z/OS DBA as a Precisely Connect CDC Engineer will be responsible for supporting, administering, monitoring, and troubleshooting Precisely Connect CDC replication solutions that replicate data from IBM Db2 for z/OS environments to cloud and distributed data platforms.
The role requires strong Db2 for z/OS database administration expertise combined with an expertise in Change Data Capture, transaction-log-based replication, mainframe infrastructure, security, and cloud integration.
The engineer will partner with Mainframe DBA, application and platform engineering teams to ensure reliable and secure movement of Db2 z/OS data to downstream cloud platforms.
Job Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience administering IBM Db2 for z/OS in enterprise production environments.
- Strong Hands-on experience with Precisely Connect CDC, formerly SQData.
- Understanding of CDC architecture and concepts including:
- Change capture
- Publisher
- CDC/transaction storage
- Replication/distribution
- Apply processing
- Source and target configuration
- Experience configuring and supporting Db2 z/OS as a CDC source.
- Ability to start, stop, monitor and troubleshoot CDC components.
- Ability to troubleshoot:
- Replication latency
- Missing transactions
- Failed replication
- Connectivity failures
- Capture failures
- Publisher failures
- Apply/target failures
- Schema or DDL changes
- Data consistency issues
- Experience managing CDC configuration when Db2 tables are added, changed, reorganized or removed.
- Strong understanding of Db2 for z/OS logging and transaction processing.
- Understanding of commit and rollback behavior.
- Ability to correlate Db2 activity with CDC replication issues.
- Ability to distinguish:
- Source Db2 problems
- CDC capture problems
- Publisher/transport problems
- Target/apply problems
- Experience investigating replication synchronization and data-consistency issues.
- Understanding of CDC restart/recovery concepts.
