An IT Asset Manager ITAM tracks maintains and optimizes an organizations hardware software and cloud infrastructure across their entire lifecycles
An IT Asset Manager bridges the gap between IT operations finance and procurement They make sure a company uses technology efficiently stays compliant with software licenses and avoids waste
Key Responsibilities
Lifecycle Management Oversee assets from procurement and deployment to maintenance and secure disposal
Inventory Tracking Maintain accurate records of hardware serial numbers software licenses and cloud usage in a Configuration Management Database CMDB
Compliance Audits Run regular internal audits to ensure software license compliance and reduce legal or security risks
Cost Optimization Analyze usage patterns to stop overlicensing eliminate duplicate subscriptions and reduce overall IT spending
Vendor Management Negotiate contracts manage supplier relationships and track vendor performance

Soft Skills Good negotiation problemsolving and communication skills to work with technical and nontechnical teams
Education A bachelors degree in IT Computer Science or Business alongside certifications like ITIL or CSAM Certified Software Asset Manager
