Sterling OMS Technical Lead / Solution Lead (Architect)

Role Summary
Lead the design, development, integration, and delivery of complex Order Management solutions using IBM Sterling OMS within a large-scale retail/eCommerce environment. Act as the primary technical point of contact across business, architecture, development, QA, DevOps, SRE, and external technology teams.
Own end-to-end technical delivery of OMS initiatives, including solution design, integration architecture, technical estimation, development oversight, performance optimization, production support, release management, and technical problem resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for IBM Sterling OMS (COM/SOM) and its integration with eCommerce, payment, fulfillment, pricing, tax, customer, subscription, and third-party systems.
- Own end-to-end technical design for complex OMS initiatives, translating business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
- Lead development and integration across Java, Spring Boot, REST/SOAP APIs, microservices, JMS, SQL, XML/XSL, JSON, and Sterling OMS frameworks.
- Design and review integrations between OMS and external platforms such as pricing/promotion, subscription, payment, delivery, customer identity, tax, fraud, and communication systems.
- Lead modernization initiatives involving OMS Microservices, BFF services, Couchbase, Azure, and cloud-based integrations.
- Provide technical direction to offshore/onshore development teams and coordinate work across multiple technology teams.
- Review solution designs, technical specifications, code changes, database queries, API contracts, and implementation approaches.
- Lead performance engineering and optimization efforts, including database query optimization, caching, API performance, transaction processing, and high-volume order processing.
- Analyze production incidents, identify root causes, coordinate cross-functional teams, and drive permanent corrective actions.
- Establish and monitor production KPIs, transaction metrics, payment failures, order failures, recovery rates, fulfillment performance, and system health.
- Lead release planning, deployment readiness, feature-toggle strategy, production validation, and post-release monitoring.
- Partner with QA and performance teams to define test strategies, validate end-to-end flows, and troubleshoot test and production defects.
- Work closely with DevOps/SRE teams on CI/CD, environment configuration, monitoring, logging, security remediation, and operational readiness.
- Drive technical discussions with architects, product owners, business stakeholders, vendors, and external technology teams.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, and gaps and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
- Mentor engineers and establish technical standards, coding practices, design patterns, and troubleshooting approaches.
- Evaluate existing OMS processes and identify opportunities for automation, simplification, performance improvement, and modernization.
