Job Description
Position Overview
The Principal Architect, Data Architecture and Solution Engineering will be responsible for developing and executing the data strategy at the business unit level. This role will drive advanced end-to-end solution architecture, spanning transactional systems of record through AI-driven business intelligence, for complex technology transformation initiatives in partnership with key business and IT stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide data technology leadership, oversight, and guidance to ensure solutions adhere to PSS Architecture Guiding Principles and standards while maximizing the reuse of technology assets.
- Perform Buy vs Build analysis using qualitative and quantitative methods and deliver clear recommendations with supporting rationale.
- Lead architecture design reviews, identify gaps, and recommend appropriate design changes.
- Actively participate in the Architecture community to drive modernization opportunities for PBM data technologies.
- Develop data architectures, guardrails, and guidelines to instill strong data discipline while providing leadership and coaching to Engineering and Product teams.
- Architect AI-driven business intelligence powered by a Universal Semantic Layer, enabling predictive analytics and Natural Language queries.
- Advise and assist application development teams in resolving technical roadblocks, including performance challenges within strategic initiatives.
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven experience with systems that produce data and architecting data at its origin.
- Strong background in data architecture for applications built from the ground up or modernization projects.
- Heavy data modeling experience; early career as a data modeler preferred.
- Expertise in multi-database environments, including relational and non-relational technologies: Postgres, MySQL, NoSQL, BigQuery.
- Experience working with API streams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders.
- Experience with end-to-end solutioning from a data architecture perspective, including proof of concept, prototyping, and presentation.
- Experience with Azure and GCP.
- Passion for learning and commitment to the role.

- Experience with state-of-the-art systems.
- Strong ability to design solutions from scratch based on business specifications.
- Demonstrated success in the complete re-engineering of applications and data architectures.

- Candidate experience is limited to data platform management.
- Candidate background is primarily in data engineering, specifically moving data from A to B.
- Candidate has heavy data lake experience only without end-to-end architecture expertise.
