Job Description
IT Research Business Systems Analyst
UCSF is seeking an experienced IT Research Business Systems Analyst to provide functional and technical expertise supporting Research Administration Systems (RAS), Accounts Receivable (AR), financial applications, and related integrations.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise financial and research administration systems, with strong expertise in Oracle Cloud Grants, Projects and Accounts Receivable, as well as experience with PeopleSoft Financials/RAS.
This position serves as a critical bridge between business users, operational stakeholders, and technical development teams. The Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for requirements gathering, business and systems analysis, data analysis, functional specifications, testing, system support, documentation, implementations, upgrades, and change management.
The role requires a highly experienced professional who can work independently, solve complex business and technical problems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide functional and technical support for Research Administration Systems, Accounts Receivable, and related enterprise applications and integrations.
- Support Oracle Cloud Grants, Projects, and AR implementations and ongoing production support.
- Provide expertise across PeopleSoft financial modules, including:
- Grants
- Contracts
- Projects
- Billing
- Accounts Receivable
- Accounts Payable
- General Ledger
- Provide daily end-user support and triage highly complex system issues using incident management procedures and ticketing systems.
- Analyze system issues, identify root causes, and coordinate appropriate resolutions with technical teams and vendors.
- Gather, analyze, document, and prioritize business and operational requirements from end users and stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into clear and detailed functional specifications for development teams.
- Perform extensive data analysis and system integrity reviews.
- Utilize SQL for data extraction, querying, validation, organization, and analysis.
- Participate in system design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, enhancements, and upgrades.
- Execute unit, integration, and end-user acceptance testing.
- Validate system functionality and results to ensure system performance and data integrity.
- Identify key system dependencies, design considerations, and decision points.
- Support Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes and related documentation.
- Develop and maintain functional, technical, operational, and knowledge-management documentation.
- Support technical change management processes for enterprise applications.
- Create training materials and assist with user training and change management.
- Collaborate with internal development teams and third-party vendors.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to resolve complex business and systems issues.
- Work closely with Accounting, Research, Academic Departments, UCSF IT, and other operational stakeholders.
- Support new implementations, system enhancements, maintenance activities, and upgrades.
- Work independently while maintaining effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Adapt responsibilities and priorities as supported applications and business processes evolve.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of related experience in business systems analysis, enterprise application support, or functional/technical systems support.
- 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise software, preferably PeopleSoft Grants, Contracts, Projects, Billing, and Accounts Receivable modules.
- Strong functional and technical experience with Oracle Cloud Grants, Projects, and Accounts Receivable.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise financial and research administration systems.
- Experience in organizations with significant size, budget, complexity, scope, and sophisticated accounting/financial systems.
- Strong understanding of database table structures, functions, processes, integrations, and system design components.
- High proficiency in SQL, including query creation, data extraction, organization, validation, and analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of application design and functional/technical documentation.
- Strong experience with software testing methodologies, including integration and user acceptance testing.
- Demonstrated ability to gather, synthesize, analyze, and prioritize complex end-user requirements.
- Ability to translate business requirements into functional specifications for technical/development teams.
- Experience working with both internal developers and third-party vendors.
- Demonstrated understanding of enterprise software change management procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex business and technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences at various organizational levels.
